To someone who isn’t into cooking, it may be challenging to differentiate one type of pizza from the other. To them, pizza is pizza. However, it is essential to note that there are different types of pizzas. They are named after the various countries they originate from. They include; Italian Pizza, California Pizza, Greek Pizza, New York Style Pizza, and Chicago Pizza, to mention a few.

In this article, we will review two different types of pizzas from the ones mentioned above. Let’s look into them!

Italian Pizza vs. Greek Pizza

There are specific differences between an Italian and a Greek pizza, even though they look alike in an ordinary setting. Greek pizza is different from traditional Italian pizza because the former is prepared differently. It originated from the Greek immigrant communities in America using a very different method from the famous Italian pizza.

Many factors distinguish an Italian Pizza from a Greek one apart from the ingredients used. Let’s dig deeper into some of them!

  • Cooking Process: The cooking process is one significant difference between both types of pizza. While the Greek pizza is placed in a shallow pizza stone dish that has been generously covered with oil, the Italian pizza is rolled out and put on an excellent pizza stone/pan. These different cooking methods result in different outcomes. Therefore, Italian Pizza has a thin and crunchy crust compared to Greek one with a thick and much puffier crust.
  • Sauces and Toppings: Besides the crunchiness of the crust, another essential factor that distinguishes one pizza from the other are the toppings added to beautify the top. A typical Italian pizza always contains mozzarella cheese, a heavy layer of tomato sauce, and other Italian spices for taste.

A thinner layer of slightly caramelized sauce is added for the Greek pizza with unique toppings. They include pepperoni, lots of olives, feta cheese, and sausages. Other toppings to go on top are ordered by the customer, so there’s no limit to what you can have on your pizza to make it slightly different from the norm.

  • Oil Usage: Another difference is spotted in the oil used during the cooking process of both pizzas. In the case of Greek pizzas, it ends up with a thicker crust after the cooking process with an ample amount of oil. On the other hand, the Italian pizza on the flat side went out of the oven with just a minimal covering of oil.

Rather than reading or hearing about these differences, why not treat yourself, family, or friends to have some? Fall brings out the many autumnal flavors of the season. Between pumpkin, chestnut, apple, maple, cinnamon, and more, incorporating these flavors into your meals can create a warm and cozy sensation. Whether you’re interested in creating your fall dish or want some Italian catering inspiration, below is a list of our favorite fall Italian cuisines.

Chestnut Pasta with Pesto

For a warm, nutty dish, try making chestnut pasta with pesto. Between the combination of pine nuts in the pesto and the autumnal chestnut flavor, this pasta will fill your taste buds with fall flavors. This dish can be served warm, with chopped pine nuts on top for a finish.

Pumpkin Ravioli

Pumpkin ravioli is controversially one of the most popular fall dishes. You have the choice to purchase these pre-made or make them yourself! Depending on your route, these kinds of ravioli omit a sweet aroma, filled with nutmeg and pumpkin spice. Plates of ravioli are a popular Italian dish, so check out the other flavors we offer here at Viga!

White Truffle Pasta

This pasta dish can be crafted with butter and Parmigiano. It is worth trying for its burst of flavor from the white truffle shavings. The truffle taste can be described as intense, earthy, and musky. This can enhance your plain pasta dishes throughout the season!

Sage Pesto Chicken

For a lighter fall dish, try having a sage pesto chicken. Whether this is baked or pan-seared, the herbal, earthy, slightly peppery flavor of sage, with hints of mint, eucalyptus, and lemon, will fill your taste buds with joy! This is a popular fall dish with a nutty pesto sauce that will blow you away!

An outdoor party in the summer heat and sun is very different from an indoor party in a restaurant. Additionally, there are many other aspects to consider, such as guest safety and food preservation. Please continue reading to learn what you need to know about serving food outside when it’s hot in the summer.

Maintain Adequate Food Temperatures

When serving food that is to be served warm, it is imperative to maintain a constant temperature. The same applies to serving cold food. Keeping your food at the correct temperature prevents spoilage. Spoiled food can cause serious illnesses. Maintaining a safe temperature for your food requires the right equipment and materials. Coolers, carts, ice packs, burners, umbrellas, and other equipment can be used. Generally, hot foods should not reach a temperature below 135 degrees Fahrenheit, and cold foods should not exceed 41 degrees Fahrenheit.

Keep Plenty of Ice Handy

Ice is especially a must when serving food outdoors on a hot day. If you are unsure how much ice you will need for your event, go ahead and double it to be safe. As it is hot outside, ice melts faster than you might expect, so you will need plenty to preserve food and make drinks. Make sure coolers with ice are available for backups, and use them to refresh trays, drinks, and bars.

Protect Against Bugs

Food served at outdoor events attracts insects. Prepare an insect protection plan for your food, as well as your guests. The importance of this becomes even more apparent if your outdoor event takes place right by the water or a forest. Insects can be controlled using equipment such as food covers, netting, candles, etc. It would be best to keep antihistamines and bug spray on hand in case a guest becomes ill.

Whether this is your first time hosting a catered event, or your tenth, it is always important to refresh yourself with the dos and don’ts of catering. We have curated a list below that highlights the most important dos and the greatest don’ts to stay away from. Continue reading to discover more about each of these.

The Dos

Supply Enough Food for Your Attendees

When ordering food for a large gathering, a headcount of the number of people attending your event is always needed. There will never be a complaint about too much food, but attendees will be upset if there is too little food.

Tailor the Menu to the Theme

You should ensure that the majority of your food options match the theme of your event. You may want to consider lighter food options if your event is scheduled in the early morning, such as salads, sandwiches, and soups.

Begin Planning ASAP

You should begin the planning process for your event as soon as possible to avoid last-minute decisions. Even if you aren’t sure how your event will turn out, create tasks that will help you prepare for it. Keeping organized will ensure everything is in place for your big day. You can also create a list of questions to ask your caterer; therefore, any confusion still in question will dissipate before the event.

The Don’ts

Don’t Add Guests After Finalizing Your List

Although catering companies are often willing to make accommodations that will benefit you, adding more guests to the final guest list is never a bright idea. You will make your local caterers work harder if you add guests at the last minute.

Don’t Reject Caterers’ Suggestions

Catering companies suggest menu edits when they believe it will enhance your event. You should at least consider the idea, even if it’s out of your budget. Considering your caterer’s advice does not always mean you have to agree, but you should at least consider it!

Italians living in Italy do not celebrate Thanksgiving, as this is a holiday for the United States of America. But is there a similar holiday that Italians celebrate? La Festa del Ringraziamento, which means Festival of Thanks, is an Italian holiday celebrated by feasting with your loved ones. The menu items for this meal are different from the average turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce that we are familiar with in the USA. But if you’re looking to host an Italian Thanksgiving here in the states, the menu will often include antipasti, primi, contorni, secondi, and of course, dolci. Continue reading to discover how you can implement these dishes into your Italian Thanksgiving.

Antipasti & Contorni

Antipasti is the term for appetizers, as contorni refers to the side dishes. These two menu items can be similar, as they are served in small portions. If you’re looking to include an Italian appetizer or side dish for your Thanksgiving, consider the following:

  • Fried sage leaves
  • Ricotta stuffed mushrooms
  • Bruschetta with squash, cranberries, & goat cheese
  • Zucchini toss
  • Baked holiday squash
  • Or roasted rosemary potatoes

Primi & Secondi

Primi and secondi are similar because they are two types of main courses for your meal. Primi, or the first course, is typically on the lighter side. This may include foods like

  • Pumpkin spice soup
  • Risotto with chestnuts
  • And pasta with goat cheese & butternut squash

Secondi, or what is considered as the main course in Italy, indulges in the heavier meals. These menu items can be included for your Thanksgiving feast:

  • Spinach, feta, & prosciutto stuffed turkey
  • Roasted lame
  • Or a duck breast in a cherry wine sauce

Dolci

This is where the fun begins, the dolci! This is the Italian word for dessert, which is the most delicious inclusion to any Italian Thanksgiving. Some options to include for your feast are:

  • Chocolate panna cotta with espresso cream
  • Crostata pie
  • Tiramisu
  • Or a delightful chocolate chestnut cake

Italian food is popular because, as simple as many of the delicious dishes, they are a crowd-pleaser with patrons coming back for more. The flexibility of Italian food makes it a catering favorite for various events, from meetings to parties. When it comes to Italian food, several different options can cater to your particular taste and occasion. Italian catering gives you options, making it fun to choose from great dishes while remaining true to Italian authenticity in each bite. What are some of the top foods that are offered in Italian catering? Here’s a look at some favorites.

Caprese Salad

At the top of the list is the Caprese salad, a famous Italian dish that is not only loved by fitness fanatics but by gluten-free and vegan eaters. Some folks use it either as an entrée or as an appetizer to set the mood for the rest of the meal. The Caprese salad is a great dish for summer events being light and tasty, typically of soft homemade mozzarella, thick tomato slices, and torn basil, and finished off with a drizzle of olive oil that brings the whole meal together.

Stuffed Pasta Shells

Stuffed pasta shells are not simple mouthfuls, they are typically filled with milky, white ricotta cheese, spinach, Italian blended spices, and marinara sauce. This budget-friendly dish is an Italian classic and has significant holiday events. Think of a deep-dish pizza that’s rich and cheesy, that is how most stuffed pasta shells would be classified.

Ravioli

Ravioli is one of the best-known Italian foods out there and is also one that offers flexibility when it comes to ingredients. This Italian catering favorite can be encased with your choice of filling, whether it’s an order with one kind of filling, or you can choose to have a few different fillings in your order. The cheese filling is a popular choice, but there are several other fillings, including mushroom, spinach, asparagus, beef, etc. You could also have ravioli that’s filled with both meat and veggie. Whether you have met lovers or veggie-lovers at your event, or an eclectic bunch, there’s a ravioli dish that can satisfy them all.

Antipasto Salad

The Antipasto Salad features fresh Italian veggies, commonly sundried tomatoes, roasted peppers, and marinated eggplants. Still, mushrooms, mixed olives, and antipasto miso artichokes have been in other versions of the salad for enhanced richness. An addition of sharp provolone cheese can kick the dish up a notch boosting the already rich flavors of the veggies.

Catering has so many other benefits, like being time-saving, cost-effective, and so on. Continue reading to discover 3 reasons why you should have catering for your next event.

1. Convenience

Catering can allow for a sense of convenience at events. Not only does the host not have to worry about preparing food, but it allows guests an abundance of selections to choose from. As a host, you always want your guests to enjoy the food. Catering offers more than just selection, it is delivered ready-to-serve. This is another huge convenience factor, as the host of the event can plan and prepare for the food’s arrival. Catering makes things easier for the host of any event.
